Pep Guardiola Unsure of Rodri's Injury Severity After Clash with Arsenal
Pep Guardiola expressed uncertainty regarding the severity of Rodri's injury sustained during Manchester City's match against Arsenal on Sunday.
The midfielder suffered a noticeable knee injury after colliding with Arsenal's Thomas Partey during a City corner. Rodri had to be substituted, and just a moment later, Arsenal equalized.
"I don't know yet. I haven't asked the doctors," Guardiola said when questioned about Rodri's potential recovery time. "He felt something unusual; otherwise, he would have stayed on the pitch."
Guardiola referred to Rodri as "the best holding midfielder in the world," emphasizing that his absence would be significant for City. This match marked Rodri's first start of the season, following a recovery from a hamstring injury.
Rodri's impact on the team is evident in the statistics: since joining City in 2019, they have lost 24% of matches without him, compared to just 11% when he plays. Remarkably, he is currently on a 52-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, with the last loss occurring in February 2023 against Tottenham.
Last season, City suffered three Premier League defeats, and Rodri was unavailable for all of them.
