Euro 2024: Ronaldo break down in tears after penalty miss against Slovenia

Cristiano Ronaldo  in tears subsequent to missing a penalty during extra-time of Portugal's Euro 2024 last round of 16 battle with Slovenia on Monday.

Ronaldo got an opportunity to put Portugal ahead late in the first half of extra-time in a strained, goalless tie in Frankfurt.

The 39-year-old moved forward to take the spot-kick after a foul on Diogo Jota, however his work was wonderfully saved by Jan Oblak.

In the wake of scoring his past 29 penalty, Ronaldo was apparently shocked to see Oblak keep out his shot and held his head in dismay.

Seconds after the penalty the whistle went for half-time in extra-time and that was the sign for Ronaldo to begin straightforwardly sobbing as he remained in a cluster of Portugal players.

Reassured by colleague Joao Palhinha, Ronaldo had the option to wipe away his tears and keep playing when the match continued.

Portugal fans sang "Viva Ronaldo" after his close to home eruption was displayed on the big screen in the Frankfurt Field.

Previous Manchester United together and real Madrid star Ronaldo has now neglected to score three of the nine penalty he has taken at significant global competitions.
